As women, we want to make our younger years last. Although we cannot help the age we are becoming year after year, we can always help our bodies feel better when it comes to the aging process.
Aging is natural, even though we would love to be able to press pause on the aging process, it’s actually a beautiful thing. Instead of worrying about when your first wrinkle is going to appear, it’s better to try and focus on the many preventative ways to help slow down the process. Here are our 5 tips when it comes to aging for women:
Protect Your Skin
Two words… Sun. Screen! I know we all love that summer glow but one of the worst things that you could possibly do is putting that summer glow over top of your skin. Did you know that exposure to UV radiation from the sun can affect your aging? Not only does the exposure affect your skin by damaging it and allowing your skin to be more prone to wrinkles… but it can also do worse, give you skin cancer. The best thing that you can do is limit your time outdoors, wear sunglasses, use sunscreen, or even wear more clothing to help prevent exposure. Too much exposure to the sun’s rays can cause a tone of different health problems including cancer, cataracts, and even immune suppression which makes you susceptible to diseases.
Exercising is one of the top anti-aging tactics. Not only is it a great way for you to look better, but it’s also a way for you to sleep better. Did you know, that when you sleep, the blood flow in your skin increases? This helps your organs to rebuild all of its collagens as well as repair UV damage, which helps to reduce aging spots and wrinkles. When you exercise, we recommend exercising for at least 30 minutes a day. Whether that be walking, hiking, lifting, or even yoga, looking for an activity that you enjoy as well as one that works your body can make exercise more enjoyable.
When it comes to our health, visiting your Primary Physician as well as your Gynecologist once a year plays a part in your aging process. This is the perfect time for you to discuss your health habits and even go through vital screenings. This helps to provide early detection of any health problem you may have, which is the key to a healthy life.
When it comes to smoking, it can be difficult to put a stop to it. But quitting smoking isn’t only going to help you to save money in the long run, it also helps when it comes to helping your body have a healthy aging process. Did you know, that when you smoke a cigarette it causes oxidative stress to your cells? This actually makes the aging process speed up in time. So whether it be quitting cold turkey or trying to find a less aggressive approach, cutting smoking out of your life will have tons of benefits to your health and aging.
We all know that our busy schedules can bring some unwanted stress, and shockingly enough stress can affect your aging process. When it comes down to it, try to find a few spare minutes in your schedule to include time for yourself. Self-care such as participating in an activity such as reading, writing, traveling, cooking, going to the movies, or even a night out with friends can help you to release all of the unwanted emotions.
